Modern Modesty: Schools

Modern Modesty: Schools
Hello, again. I'm Hi Galloper, and this is Modern Modesty. Does the bible say anything about school? It talks about education, but nothing about classrooms. If schools are so important, why aren't they listed in the ten commandments? Because schools are evil. God just expected us to know it without having to be commanded. There can't be any good reason for all the children to have to spend their entire lives together in a room with their peers being strictly supervised by a government employee. Children are impressionable. What is our 'secular' government doing to them?

I have a theory about this. While I am mostly concerned with issues of modesty here, and with the destructive nature of peer groups to encourage brashness, I think schools are up to a lot worse than merely making children obsessed with peer acceptance. Look at the stars they hold up as role models. Half of them got to the top by cutting some poor bastard's throat. What do you get when you encourage this kind of behaviour? Junior mercenaries, all ready for a spot on the front lines of the next armed conflict.

Religion would teach them that money and fame would only ultimately disappoint them, but schools are secular. They don't care about your child's soul. He's just a number to them. If he's a high number, they'll try to make money off him. If he's not so high number, they'll send him to an institution to keep the police and guards gainfully employed. Want to know a growing field? Prison guards and psychiatric guards. Way to go, schools.

I'm not done talking about this. For Modern Modesty, I'm Hi Galloper.
